Dean graduates from Kansas University with a degree in exercise physiology and absolutely no idea what he’s going to do with it.  He wanted a degree related to hunting in some way and discovered that he really loves his field.  But the idea of getting a real job doesn’t appeal to Dean.

The alley’s deserted when Dean and Meg stumble out the back door of the bar; the only light a lone streetlight at the alley’s entrance.  They’re both drunk, laughing and kissing, tripping over each other’s feet until Meg’s back slams into the wall.

Dean graduates high school and everything changes.

For reasons that baffle everyone Dean hides how smart he is but his grades are solid and he got accepted to each school he applied to.

Dean spends his sixteenth birthday on a hunt.  It’s an awesome hunt and he wouldn’t have it any other way.  He got to burn a mass grave.  It was better than candles on a cake.

Mary gets hurt and they decide its time to tell the boys.

Getting injured was so stupid, a rookie mistake that she beats herself up over the entire time she’s in the hospital.

In the fall Dean wants to play soccer with his friends.  The park district has a soccer league and most of the boys on the block and in his class are playing and Dean wants to play too.

Mary signs him up for karate classes instead.  Dean is not happy.

John’s the first to get seriously hurt.  They’d been lucky for so long, walking away from every hunt with nothing more than cuts and bruises, sprained ankles and wrists and the occasional broken bone.  But hunting is dangerous and it was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
